Roommates/Friends Forever

I honestly had the best roommates ever. I grew up with two of them, and came to love the other two just as much. Alex and Claryssa served missions soon after Chip and I got married; Hermana Rodriguez in Guatemala and Hermana Cortéz in Spain. Now, Angie has been called to serve; Hermana Rodriguez is off to Montreal, Canada. We seldom get to see each other as a group and Angie's departure provided the perfect opportunity to have a reunion before she leaves for 18 months. I have such a deep admiration for missionaries. They leave their families and homes, pay their own way, and consecrate their time to serve Heavenly Father by sharing the true gospel. I feel so blessed to call some of these missionaries "friend"  and "brother".

So I Married A Poet...

Chip, you are such an amazing person with so many talents. This is just one of them.

 The Death of the Phoenix

The darkness is fading in the pail morning light
An image of the dawn will soon be in sight.
With the flame of the sun rising in the east
A small fiery creature scrambles out for a feast.
At first it was small clawing at flames to get free
Once it surfaced it stretched forth its wings and flew to a tree
His flames flickered brighter as it started to sing
His symphony of life my ear it did ring.
An infusion of color like a master at work
Found place in my heart that I soon wouldn’t shirk.

The phoenix few to my side with dedication and fervor
A friend in each other with little to murmur.
I walked through my life the Phoenix did follow
Companionship and love, nothing was hollow.

As the sun set in the west I looked at my friend
Tired and weary for the long winters end.
He nuzzled my neck and squawked in my ear
The end of this friendship soon to be near.
With tears in my eyes I stroked his long feathers
He flew from my arms and into the weather.
The glimmering rays of the sun enveloped my friend
The days of the Phoenix are now at an end.
The tear from my eye now dripped from tipped finger
The sun setting fast I knew I must not linger.
As it grew dark, sadness flooded my mind
How could my friend have left me behind.
With that in my mind I soon did measure
With death of the phoenix comes rebirth and pleasure
My friend will be back although not on this day
To walk by my side and show me the way.

Kamila's One-Year-Old pictures

I couldn't resist...

but I just had to share this picture. I love her rosy chubby cheeks and her golden locks (that are starting to curl! I hope that she has beautifully curly hair, unlike mine that does not know if it wants to be straight or wavy). I am trying to not let my blog become centered around my gushing of my baby, but I can't help myself sometimes. After all, it is MY blog and I DO have the right to say what I want, including to gush about Kamila. I think she is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen...a bit subjective, I know. However, we all know it is a mother's prerogative to feel this way about their children; I am no exception :)

This is what perfect husbands do...

Have a craft night at home when you missed the monthly one with the girls. I was in El Paso when my girlfriends had our monthly girls night so I ordered my kit and got to it last night. A little late in the month but at least our patriotic concoction will proudly shine on our dining table for a week and a half.

Learning to Walk

Kamila is not close to walking...she is just trying to get a hang of standing long enough without being scared :) This was a milestone for her. She has been terrified by grass itself so we were proud of her for not bawling when we set her down on it. She is growing up too fast, so I am not complaining that she is 1 and not walking. I want her to stay like this forever.

4th of July Parade

We made it this year! We have lived in Provo for 3 years and had never been to any of the Independence Day festivities in the area mainly because we would be in San Diego for the annual Price reunion. This year it didn't happen so we figured we better get to it and experience these things before we are living in a different state. The parade was early and PACKED with people. The night before the parade everyone camps out on University Avenue for a huge block party. We drove down and showed the girls and I reminisced about what nights in Mexico are like. This was just like it is every week/weekend night in Mexico. People walking down the streets, music playing somewhere, people sitting out on their porch drinking some soda to cool off, restaurants open till 2 am bursting with ambiance. I digress...back to the parade. It was fun...and a little long. We met up with Ryan and Brigitte's family and enjoyed the floats, marching bands, oh yes- and the flock of missionaries parading down the street. Only in Utah :) . Gotta love it!

Alexa & Amaris

Aren't these two so beautiful? I'm so glad that I will have two girlfriends as roommates for the next couple of weeks. They make me feel so young. I love you girls!
